Important changes to Workplace Training

Students participating in work placement are required to provide a 'Third Party Evidence' form to verify that they have successfully demonstrated the practical components of a competency. Previously, this could only be signed by a supervisor/manager who held a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training (or equivalent).

What are the new methods?

The new method of Workplace Training means the Certificate IV assessment qualification is no longer a mandatory requirement. This means supervisors/ managers only need to have industry experience to the level at which performance is being assessed. It is also desirable for the supervisor/manager to have formal qualifications at least to the level of the course being assessed

Which courses are affected?

  • Diploma of Children's Services
  • Children's Services Cert. III
  • Horticulture Cert. II
  • Tourism (Operations) Cert. II
  • Tourism (International Retail Travel Sales) Cert. III
  • Aged Care Work Cert. III
  • Tourism (Sales and Marketing) Cert. IV
  • Restaurant & Catering Management SOA
  • Hotel Management SOA
  • Animal Care SOA

Who will it affect?

New students will commence with the new method of assessment. For students who are currently taking part in work placement with a Certificate IV qualified assessor, this method is still valid and if they wish to continue with this, they can do so. If they prefer to move into the new method of assessment, this is also possible simply by contacting Student Services on 1300 650 011.

What additional benefits will I get?

A Workplace Coordinator will be appointed and will become the point of contact for students and employers throughout the work placement process. The Workplace Coordinator will:

  • Contact any newly enrolled students in courses that require workplace training and ensure they understand what is expected of them.
  • Coordinate and assist with the organising of the work place component of the courses.
  • Handle any enquiries from students and workplace supervisors about workplace activities.

The Workplace Coordinator will also work to build relationships with workplace organisations in an effort to extend Cengage Education's partnerships in the sectors that require student workplace training and assessment.
