Jenny Scepanovic tutors Cengage Education's distance learning editing course. The course also covers proofreading and is ideal for those who may wish to go on to become an editor or a proofreader.
After completing a BA degree in Communication Studies, Jenny began her career in print production as an account manager for a marketing company. She wrote, edited and co-ordinated printed material such as travel brochures, fliers, annual reports and newsletters.
She then made the move into book publishing and went on to become a project editor at Lansdowne Publishing, a publisher and packager of non-fiction, illustrated books.
Jenny learnt many of the practical skills required by editors including picture research, writing, permissions, basic design and desktop publishing and brings these skills to the distance learning Editing and Proofreading course.
She then worked on the Australian version of the For Dummies list, training in the US and benefiting from one-on-one mentoring by experienced structural and copy editors.
Jenny then decided to become a freelance proofreader and now works as a full-time freelance editor from home. She works for well-known publishers on non-fiction, trade and higher education books in a variety of categories. These include accounting, biography, cooking and personal finance, and many For Dummies books.
