We were Thomson, now we’re Cengage. Or to be more accurate, we were Thomson Education Direct, and now we’re Cengage Education. We can see how this may be confusing. But here’s a little help if you’re ever looking for us on the internet.

The change came about last year after Thomson Education and its sister publishing company Thomson Learning were bought from The Thomson Corporation by investment companies Apax Partners and OMERS Capital Partners. Understandably Thomson wanted to keep their name to themselves.
They’ve always been particular about how that name is spelt as well. Named from the famous Canadian family that has run the information company since its inception, they never felt the need for a p in their name. It’s definitely not Thompson.
When looking for us on the internet it also helps to remember the Thomsons did however feel the need for an h. Admittedly it does look a little more sophisticated than Tomson. And if you type in Tompson then you’re on the wrong track completely.

Really you’re better off sticking with our new name – Cengage Education. We picked the word Cengage because it’s an easy way of telling potential students that we are at the ‘centre of engagement of learning’. In other words, we are a very good place to start if you want to get back into education.
